Argentina wins the Copa Maya 2016: Latin American selection or the 'Coupe du Monde de la Pâtisserie

After a day of fierce competition set in the heart of Sirha Mexico trade swhow, the team from Argentina composed of Jorge Garcia (Sugar category) and Mariano Zichert (Chocolate category) wins the title of “Copa Maya 2016 Champion”. Mexico (2nd place) and Chile (3rd place) also earn their place in the final of the 'Coupe du Monde de la Pâtisserie' that will be held as part of Sirha Lyon, on 22nd and 23rd January 2017. By achieving 4thplace Brazil also earns a ticket for the final thanks to a “Wild card”. 

Two special prizes were awarded to: Abner Leme (Brazil) for the artistic sugar creation and Carlos Avilla (Colombia) for the artistic chocolate creation.

Packed with creativity and excellence, the Latin American selection contest represents one of the most spectacular events in the Latin American pastry industry, in which emotions and technical challenge are omnipresent. 

Under the presidency of Maria Teresa Degollado - President of Honor - each country has 6 hours to prepare 2 frozen fruits desserts, 10 desserts on a plate as well as 2 artistic creations made out of drawn sugar and chocolate. PRESS RELEASE Monday, 22th February 2016 

After deliberation by the jury, 5 prizes were awarded: 

1st Prize : €2,100 in prize money, 3 trophies and 3 Gold medals, won by Argentina 

2nd Prize: €1,400 in prize money and 3 Silver medals, won by Mexico 

3rd Prize: €1,000 and 3 Bronze medals, won by Chile 

•The Chocolate Prize won by Colombian chef Carlos de Avila 

•The Sugar Prize won by Brazilian chef Abner Leme The Wild Card was handed to the Brazilian team composed of Abner Leme and Riverton Santos
